Electricity: In Italy, over 2,600 small plants

Announced the publication of the 3rd Report on the Evolution of Distributed Generation and the "Consolidated Text on Production"

Rome, March 17, 2009

Italian Flag Italian version

In Italy there are more than 2,600 small plants with a total installed power of over 4,000 MW and a considerable annual production, equal to 4.3% of the entire national gross power production. This is what emerges from the Terzo Rapporto sull'evoluzione della generazione distribuita (Third Report on the Evolution of Distributed Generation), produced by the Regulatory Authority through the monitoring of distributed and small-generation plants.

Together with the publication of the Report, the Authority issued the "Testo unico della produzione" (Consolidated Text on Production), which gathers the most important measures regulating power production from renewable sources and high-performance cogeneration.

The Report analyzes various themes: the growing spread of distributed generation; the evolution of the regulatory framework aiming to facilitate the distributed generation itself, ; the examination of energy models to satisfy heating requirements; the analysis of the impact of distributed generation on the power grids.

The Report, which can be consulted on the website www.autorita.energia.it attached to Resolution ARG/elt 25/09, is updated every year by monitoring the development of small and microgeneration plants.
